Orca AI Secures $72.5M in Series B Funding for Maritime AI Technology
Orca AI, a London-based maritime technology company, has raised $72.5 million in Series B funding led by Brighton Park Capital, bringing its total funding to $111 million. Founded in 2018, Orca AI leverages artificial intelligence and computer vision, using a marine visual dataset of over 80 million nautical miles, to enhance navigational safety and operational efficiency for ships. Its platform is already deployed on more than 1,200 vessels operated by major global shipping companies, providing AI-based alerts and decision support to reduce collisions and improve fuel efficiency. The company plans to use the new capital to expand its core autonomy platform, add new capabilities, and enter new markets, including defense and security, as evidenced by its first contract with a navy. Orca AI's growth is also facilitated by real-time data connectivity through Starlink, enabling large-scale data collection and continuous system improvement. The autonomous shipping market is projected to exceed $11 billion by 2028, with Orca AI positioned alongside companies like Avikus and Sea Machines in driving innovation in the sector.
