Lookman Wins 2024 CAF Player of the Year
Ademola Lookman of Nigeria and Barbra Banda of Zambia were named Africa's men's and women's players of the year, respectively, at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards in Marrakech. Lookman, who had a stellar season with Atalanta, was instrumental in their Europa League victory and Nigeria's runner-up finish at the Africa Cup of Nations. Banda, who led Orlando Pride to their first National Women's Soccer League championship, also made history with her third Olympic hat-trick. South Africa's Ronwen Williams was another standout, winning both the Men's Goalkeeper of the Year and Men's Interclub Player of the Year awards. Ivory Coast and Nigeria were recognized as the best men's and women's national teams, respectively. Lookman's recognition follows Nigeria's Victor Osimhen, marking consecutive wins for Nigeria in the men's category for the first time since the late 1990s.
