Noah Lyles Wins Sixth Consecutive Diamond League 200m Title in Zurich
Noah Lyles secured his sixth Diamond League final win by narrowly defeating Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo in the 200m at the Zurich Diamond League meeting, clocking 19.74 seconds. Despite a slow start, Lyles unleashed his renowned top-end speed in the final stretch to edge Tebogo by just 0.02 seconds, delivering a crucial confidence boost ahead of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. This victory marks Lyles’ fifth Diamond League 200m title and the 19th overall first-place finish in his Diamond League career, placing him alongside Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon as the only track athletes with five Diamond League titles. Tebogo, who had previously beaten Lyles at the Olympics while the American was affected by Covid, was unable to hold off Lyles this time, finishing second with a strong performance. The race was notable for being one of the fastest 200m times of the year, and it highlighted Lyles' resilience after recovering from a groin injury earlier in the season. British athletes also impressed at the event, with Max Burgin and Georgia Hunter Bell posting personal bests and competitive times in their respective 800m races.
