TEA Investigates Bellaire HS Over Alleged Student Social Transitioning

Governor Greg Abbott has initiated an investigation by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) into allegations that educators at Bellaire High School in Houston engaged in inappropriate 'social transitioning' of a student against the wishes of the child's parents. This action follows a letter from State Representative Steve Toth, who raised concerns about the educators' conduct, which Abbott described as unethical and a violation of parental rights. Abbott emphasized that schools should not promote distorted notions of human biology or contribute to a child's gender dysphoria. Under Texas law, educators could face severe penalties for not adhering to these regulations. Abbott previously stated that Texas only recognizes two genders and indicated that educators discussing gender transition with students should be fired. The TEA is currently reviewing the specifics of the allegations as the investigation unfolds.
