Startups Launch Detection Tools Against AI Cheating App Cluely
AI cheating tool Cluely, which claimed its hidden browser window was 'undetectable' for cheating on exams, interviews, and meetings, has sparked a rapid response from startups launching detection tools. San Francisco-based Validia released 'Truely,' a free product that alerts users if Cluely is running, while Rhode Island’s Proctaroo says its platform can monitor and flag hidden background processes like Cluely during proctored sessions. Cluely’s CEO, Chungin 'Roy' Lee, dismissed these anti-cheating efforts, comparing them to failed attempts to prevent cheating in the gaming industry and revealed intentions to develop hardware solutions, such as smart glasses or wearable devices, that could bypass anti-cheating software entirely. Facing criticism, Cluely has recently removed references to test and interview cheating from its marketing, shifting its focus toward scenarios like sales calls and meetings. The company claims it is 'redefining' its messaging to target broader, less controversial markets. The ongoing dispute highlights escalating tensions between AI-powered tools facilitating dishonesty and the tech firms seeking to combat them.
