Ohio Plans Advanced Air Mobility Division, Boosts Aviation Innovation

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced the creation of an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) division aimed at integrating advanced aviation technologies with ground transportation. This initiative reflects Ohio's commitment to leading in the development of AAM, which includes new aircraft designs capable of vertical takeoff and landing, significantly reducing the need for traditional airport infrastructure. Robert “Bob” Tanner has been appointed as the AAM Director, leveraging his extensive experience in aviation and transportation policy to guide the state's strategy. The AAM division will operate from the National Advanced Air Mobility Center of Excellence in Springfield, collaborating with local industry partners to enhance the state's aviation capabilities. ODOT's strategic vision will support the transport of both people and cargo using innovative aircraft technologies, further solidifying Ohio's position in the emerging air mobility landscape.
