The Indian cricket team is set to resume its activities with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting September 19, following a break after their white-ball series against Sri Lanka. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has summoned Mumbai's promising off-spinner Himanshu Singh to join a preparatory camp in Chennai from September 13-18, ahead of the series. Singh, a 21-year-old spinner with a bowling action reminiscent of Ravichandran Ashwin, recently excelled in the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah memorial tournament, taking 7 wickets for 74 runs. This camp will include other players who have shown exceptional performance, including those participating in the Duleep Trophy. Star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal expressed anticipation for the competitive spirit against a strong Bangladesh team that recently achieved a 2-0 Test series victory over Pakistan. The series will be critical as it is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.
