Nuro Expands Driverless Vehicle Operations in US

Nuro is significantly expanding its Level 4 driverless vehicle operations using zero-occupant vehicles in Mountain View, Palo Alto, and Houston, marking an 83% and 70% increase in deployment areas, respectively. This expansion enhances the company's operational capabilities to handle complex scenarios such as navigating construction zones and reacting to emergency vehicles, while also allowing multi-lane road operation at speeds up to 35 mph. Nuro's fleet has logged over one million autonomous miles without any at-fault incidents, underscoring its commitment to safety. The company has pivoted its business model to license its technology to automotive manufacturers and mobility operators, following a shift from direct vehicle ownership and operation. Nuro aims to attract partners interested in its AI-driven autonomy platform, showcasing the scalability of its technology. CEO Jiajun Zhu emphasized the growing interest from automotive OEMs since the unveiling of their new direction just over a month ago.
