New BBC Drama Explores Family Abuse After Release

The BBC has commissioned a new drama from acclaimed writer Jimmy McGovern that will explore the impact of grooming and sexual abuse on a family, specifically focusing on the Mitchell family, who face the aftermath of an abuse case involving a recently released relative. The 90-minute, as-yet-untitled drama will be filmed in Liverpool and produced by LA Productions, with Julia Ford directing. The cast includes notable names such as Anna Friel, Anna Maxwell Martin, Bobby Schofield, David Threlfall, and Mark Womack. McGovern expressed excitement about the talent assembled for the project, while executive producer Colin McKeown emphasized the sensitive nature of the subject matter. Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, praised McGovern's ability to tackle contemporary issues in his writing, highlighting the drama's exploration of the far-reaching effects of abuse.
