Sudan's Top Commander Survives Drone Attack

Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan, Sudan's military chief, survived a drone attack during a military graduation ceremony in Gebeit, eastern Sudan, which resulted in five fatalities. The attack involved two drones and occurred shortly after the event concluded, but Burhan was unharmed, according to military spokesperson Lt. Col. Hassan Ibrahim. This incident highlights the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has persisted for over a year, primarily between the military and the Rapid Support Forces. The military leadership has been operating mainly from eastern Sudan due to the violence in the capital, Khartoum. The attack comes as the U.S. encourages both the military and paramilitary forces to participate in peace negotiations scheduled for next month in Switzerland. The civil war has reportedly led to around 150,000 deaths, underscoring the urgency for a resolution.
