Three Dead, Over 80 Injured After Stand Collapse at Algerian Soccer Match
Following MC Alger's second consecutive Algerian Ligue 1 title win, three spectators died and over 70 were injured after falling from the upper stand of Stade du 5 Juillet in Algiers. The incident occurred when a security barrier or railing in the stadium broke as fans prepared to celebrate the title, causing the fall. Injured fans were transported to several hospitals, including Beni Messous University Hospital, Ben Aknoun Hospital, and Bab El Oued Hospital, with MC Alger players and staff donating blood to aid the victims. MC Alger expressed condolences on Instagram for one supporter, Younes Amguzzi, who died in the fall, while the club has yet to comment on the other fatalities. Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune also offered his condolences and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. The trophy presentation ceremony was postponed due to the tragic event.
