Former BYU QB Jake Retzlaff Transfers to Tulane Amid Legal Suspension

The Tulane Green Wave have secured former BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff as part of their competitive 2025 quarterback room following the transfer of 2024 starter Darian Mensah. Retzlaff, who faces no criminal charges but was suspended for seven games at BYU due to violation of the school's honor code related to premarital sex, transferred after a civil lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault was dismissed. Tulane conducted thorough due diligence, including a Title IX review, before committing to Retzlaff, who will join as a walk-on and compete for the starting role against other transfers such as Kadin Semonza, Donovan Leary, and Brendan Sullivan. Retzlaff previously led BYU to an 11-2 record in 2024, passing for nearly 3,000 yards and rushing for over 400 yards, bringing valuable experience and mobility to the Green Wave. His move was reportedly influenced by a long-standing relationship with Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall, who recruited him to Troy previously and now leads Tulane with notable success.
