Djokovic Advances US Open Third Round, Faces Physical Challenges
Novak Djokovic advanced to the third round of the 2025 US Open after a challenging four-set victory over American qualifier Zachary Svajda, marking his 75th appearance in a major third round and surpassing Roger Federer's record in that category. Despite struggles with form and fitness, Djokovic equaled Federer's record of 191 hard-court match wins at Grand Slams, highlighting his dominance on the surface with 71 titles and a career win percentage of 84.3%. Djokovic acknowledged frustration with his game and internal challenges but remains focused on improving as he prepares to face Cameron Norrie, against whom he holds a 6-0 record. Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka, the WTA World No.1, also reached the third round and continues to build confidence following previous losses to Leylah Fernandez. Sabalenka and Djokovic were spotted practicing together, with Sabalenka successfully hitting serves past Djokovic in a lighthearted challenge. Djokovic's pursuit of a 25th Grand Slam remains uncertain amid his physical struggles and the rise of younger competitors, although he has shown glimpses of his best tennis in key moments this season.
