AI George Clooney Scam Cheats Argentina Woman of £10,000

Two separate cases of romance scams involving impersonation and AI-generated deepfake videos have recently come to light. In Nottingham, Hesaam Ghori deceived a woman and three others by posing as a professional footballer, manipulating them into sending money totaling over £18,000 over more than a year through fabricated personal crises. Meanwhile, an Argentinian woman was defrauded of £10,000 by scammers using an AI-generated George Clooney to gain her trust over six weeks via Facebook, convincing her to send money purportedly to help the actor divorce his wife. The Clooney scam involved convincing videos where the deepfake appeared to blink and speak, making the victim believe she was communicating with the real star, and included promises to repay and offer a job. Both cases highlight the emotional and financial toll of such scams, as victims were exploited through personal relationships built on deceit. Authorities, including Nottinghamshire Police and the FBI, have been involved following reports from the victims.
