Ten Arrested in Connection with Deadly Honolulu Fireworks Explosion

In connection with a deadly New Year's Eve fireworks explosion in Honolulu, police have arrested a total of 10 individuals, including multiple parents who were allegedly igniting illegal fireworks at the gathering. The tragic incident killed five people, including a 3-year-old boy and a 29-year-old man who succumbed to his injuries in Arizona. Authorities have charged suspects with reckless endangering and endangering the welfare of minors, while the investigation continues with federal assistance to trace the source of the illegal fireworks. Over 500 pounds of unexploded fireworks were confiscated from the scene, where a lit bundle of aerial fireworks tipped over and ignited crates of unlit fireworks, causing the explosion. Honolulu Police Lt. Deena Thoemmes indicated that additional arrests are expected as the investigation unfolds. Witnesses have been uncooperative, complicating the police's efforts to piece together the events of that night.
