Man Dies in Engine Accident at Milan Bergamo Airport
A 35-year-old man, neither a passenger nor an airport employee, died after being sucked into the engine of a Volotea Airbus A319 as it prepared for takeoff to Asturias, Spain at Milan Bergamo Airport. The man reportedly breached security by abandoning his car and running onto the runway, with some reports indicating he was fleeing police at the time. The incident prompted suspension of airport operations from 10:20 a.m. to noon local time, causing numerous flight cancellations and diversions. Authorities have launched an investigation into how the individual accessed the restricted area and whether his actions were intentional or accidental. Both the airport operator, SACBO, and Volotea are cooperating with the inquiry. The victim’s identity remains withheld as the investigation continues.
