SailGP Adds Swedish Artemis Racing, Expands Global Sailing Series to 13 Teams

Sweden's Artemis Racing has been awarded a new franchise to join the SailGP sailing series in the 2026 season, becoming the league's 13th international team. Backed by Swedish billionaire Torbjorn Törnqvist, Artemis Racing will be led by British Olympic gold medallist Iain Percy as CEO, with Australian Olympic champion Nathan Outteridge confirmed as the team's driver. The expansion process attracted over 35 expressions of interest, with Artemis emerging as the successful bidder from six or seven finalists, in a process managed by Deloitte. The franchise acquisition reportedly involved a fee around a $60 million valuation, reflecting the growing capital value of SailGP teams. Artemis Racing, founded in 2006 and a former America's Cup competitor, aims to leverage cutting-edge technology and a world-class crew to compete at the highest level and push innovation and sustainability within the sport. SailGP's managing director and CEO highlighted Artemis's professionalism and potential to raise the competition's standard, with the season set to begin in January 2026.
