New Hanover County Main Library Opens Downtown Wilmington
The New Hanover County Public Library System is set to open its new main branch in downtown Wilmington on October 6, 2025, located at 230 Grace Street, Suite A, as part of the larger $75 million Project Grace revitalization effort. The new 95,000 square-foot library features two floors with books, computers, multi-purpose rooms, an outdoor terrace, and modern amenities designed to engage both returning and new visitors. This facility is integrated within the Grace District, which also includes the Cape Fear Museum's forthcoming location, expected to open in summer 2026 and will feature a planetarium, immersive theater, and interactive exhibits. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for October 6 at 2 p.m., with remarks from county leaders and library staff, followed by public tours of the state-of-the-art library. The new library will operate Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., promising a vibrant community hub with diverse programming and activities. The project reflects a significant investment in downtown Wilmington's cultural and educational infrastructure, aiming to impress and serve the community for years to come.
