Cullman Receives Grant for Bridge Replacement

The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a $20,390,010 grant to the city of Cullman for the replacement of the St. Bernard Bridge on US Hwy 278/SR 69, which crosses Eight Mile Creek. This funding, part of the FY25-26 Rural MPDG Program, aims to enhance transportation safety and efficiency by widening the highway and improving roadway connectivity. Congressman Robert Aderholt announced the grant and also secured an additional $11 million in the FY2025 appropriations bill to support the project's costs. Aderholt emphasized the project's importance for alleviating congestion and promoting economic growth in the region. The grant will be managed by the Office of the Secretary of Transportation, facilitating the project's timely completion. The enhancements are expected to significantly benefit Cullman residents and businesses.
