Five Arrested in St Helens Elderly Couple Arson Murders

Three additional individuals have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to commit arson in the case of Eric Greener, 77, and Sheila Jackson, 83, who died in a fire at their St Helens home on July 15. The arrested include a 45-year-old man from Liverpool, a 48-year-old woman with no fixed address, and a 53-year-old woman from Anfield. Lee Owens, 46, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of murder and arson with intent to endanger life, and is scheduled to enter a plea in November, with a trial possibly set for January 2026. A 31-year-old man from St Helens remains on conditional bail after being arrested on suspicion of murder. Police emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and encouraged the public to provide any information that might assist the case. An accelerant was reportedly used to start the blaze, and the couple had lived in the property for 15 years prior to the tragic incident.
