Stolen-Plated SUV Jumps University Bridge

Seattle Police released dashcam and surveillance video showing a driver in a stolen Audi Q5 clear the gap on the partially raised University Bridge on Sept. 17 while fleeing officers. Officers had attempted a traffic stop after spotting the stolen plates near 10th Ave E and E Boston St., lost contact as the vehicle ran through residential streets, and later encountered it stopped in traffic as the bridge was lowering around 12:20 p.m. Video shows the driver breaking through a safety gate, veering into oncoming lanes, accelerating and becoming airborne over the gap while pursuing officers stopped short and did not follow onto the bridge. The badly damaged Audi was later found abandoned near Pasadena Place E./N.E. 42nd St. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
