VinFast Plans Major India Expansion with EV Launch
Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has announced its entry into the Indian market with the unveiling of the VF6 and VF7 electric SUVs at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. The company aims to capture market share in India, competing with local and international rivals like Mahindra & Mahindra and BYD, by focusing on premium electric vehicles. VinFast plans a significant investment of $500 million over five years to establish a car and battery manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, with a production capacity starting at 50,000 units annually, expandable to 250,000. The VF7 SUV features advanced technology, including a 75.3 kWh battery offering a range of up to 450 km, and a suite of modern amenities and safety features. Meanwhile, VinFast is negotiating with the Indian government for a reduction in the 100% import tax on fully built EVs, a move opposed by domestic automakers. The launch of these vehicles is expected in late 2025, although pricing details remain undisclosed.
