10 Dead, 70 Injured as Storm Capsizes Tourist Boats in Guizhou
A sudden storm featuring strong winds, heavy rain, and hail caused four tourist boats to capsize on the Wu River in Guizhou province, China, plunging over 80 people into the water. At least nine to ten people died, one person remains missing, and around 70 were hospitalized, most with minor injuries. The incident occurred during a busy national holiday period, amplifying concerns about tourist safety. Chinese President Xi Jinping called for urgent search and rescue efforts, as well as improved safety protocols at tourist sites. Rescue operations involved nearly 500 emergency responders. State media reported that the boats were not overloaded and that all crew members on the unoccupied boats managed to save themselves.
