India Highlights Renewable Energy Achievements at Conference

At the Hamburg Sustainability Conference, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted India's significant advancements in renewable energy and green shipping, asserting the nation's role as a global leader in sustainable energy. He noted that India is the only G20 country to have met its climate targets ahead of schedule, with renewable energy capacity increasing from 75 GW to over 208 GW since 2014, representing a 175% rise. Total renewable energy production surged by 86%, reaching 360 billion units, and solar energy capacity grew 33 times in the past decade. Joshi emphasized the importance of energy security while maintaining a commitment to sustainability, supported by initiatives like the International Solar Alliance. He also pointed out the modernization of Indian shipyards and the focus on green shipping to reduce emissions in global trade. Overall, Joshi underscored that sustainability is a core tenet of Indian culture, reflecting a deep-rooted belief in harmony with nature.
