Residents Cut Off by Landslip in West Midlands
Residents of Haden Cross Drive in Cradley Heath, West Midlands, have been effectively 'cut off' from their homes due to a significant landslip that began in March last year when a retaining wall collapsed. Despite attempts to stabilize the area with sandbags, recent heavy rainfall has caused more earth to slide, completely blocking access to the cul-de-sac and forcing homeowners to park their cars far away and walk through neighbors' gardens to reach their homes. Approximately a dozen houses, valued at up to £400,000, are affected, and residents are concerned about the structural integrity of their properties as additional landslides threaten their safety. The estate is privately owned by Dunedin Homes, but residents report a lack of accountability and support from the company, exacerbated by inadequate street lighting that remains non-functional. Engineer Reece Aleksander expressed the frustration of living in such conditions, stating that the situation has only worsened with time, particularly after larger slips occurred in October and December. As anxiety mounts over potential further damage, residents are calling for urgent action to address the ongoing landslip crisis.
