Sunderland Sign Reinildo on Free Transfer

Sunderland have signed 31-year-old Mozambican defender Reinildo Mandava on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Atletico Madrid. Reinildo made over 100 appearances for Atletico, won Ligue 1 with Lille, and brings extensive experience to Sunderland’s young Premier League squad. Prior to a significant knee injury in 2023, he was a key player for Atletico, though he has since faced challenges regaining his previous form and pace. Sunderland’s sporting director and Reinildo expressed mutual ambition for his Premier League move and his leadership role. Reinildo is expected to compete primarily for the left-back position but offers versatility across the defense.
