India, EU Commit to Finalize FTA by 2025

India and the European Union have reaffirmed their commitment to concluding a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the end of 2025, following productive discussions between Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and EU Commissioner Maros Sefcovic in Brussels. Both sides highlighted the progress made and agreed to address remaining issues with a focus on enhancing market access, strengthening diversified supply chains, and deepening economic partnership. The upcoming negotiation round is scheduled for May in New Delhi, underscoring ongoing high-level engagement. Leaders from both regions emphasized the strategic importance of the agreement, aiming to boost innovation, competitiveness, investment, and mobility for shared prosperity and sustainable development. The FTA is expected to be balanced, mutually beneficial, and to support the economic resilience of both India and the EU. The commitment builds on the direction set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
