Apple App Store Drives ₹44,447 Crore for Indians in 2024

A study by IIM Ahmedabad’s Professor Viswanath Pingali, published by Apple, found that the App Store ecosystem in India generated Rs 44,447 crore ($5.31 billion) in developer billings and sales in 2024, with over 94% of revenue going directly to developers. Nearly 80% of Indian developers' App Store earnings in 2024 came from international users, and global earnings have tripled for India-based developers over the past five years. Indian apps saw more than 755 million downloads globally in 2024. Small developers experienced a 74% earnings increase between 2021 and 2024, supported by Apple initiatives such as the App Store Small Business Program and the Developer Center in Bengaluru. Apple CEO Tim Cook called the App Store an 'economic miracle' for Indian developers, emphasizing the company's ongoing commitment to innovation. Apple also highlighted the significance of food delivery, travel, gaming, and entertainment app categories and noted the platform's strong safety and security features as important drivers of growth.
