2025 Booker Prize Longlist Most International in Decade

The 2025 Booker Prize longlist includes 13 novels from authors of nine nationalities, making it the most internationally diverse selection in a decade. Indian author Kiran Desai returns with 'The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny,' while Canadian writers Maria Reva ('Endling') and David Szalay ('Flesh') are also recognized. The longlist features debut appearances for nine authors and does not include any Irish-born writers, though Trinidadian-Irish author Claire Adam is represented. Other notable nominees are Tash Aw, Susan Choi, and Andrew Miller, with many books exploring themes of identity, family, and historical impact. The judging panel, chaired by Roddy Doyle and including Sarah Jessica Parker, commended the narrative innovation and compelling characters. The shortlist will be announced on September 23, and the £50,000 winner on November 10 in London.
