Vampire Diaries Co-Creator Kevin Williamson Confirms No Involvement in New Spinoff Citing Timing Concerns
Co-creator Kevin Williamson of The Vampire Diaries has expressed that it is too soon for another spinoff in the franchise, despite ongoing interest from his partner Julie Plec, who has indicated she has stories she still wants to tell. Although The Vampire Diaries successfully spawned two spinoffs, The Originals and Legacies, the latter was canceled after four seasons, and there is no official confirmation yet of a new series. Williamson has stated he is not involved in any potential new spinoff projects and was surprised by the reports, suggesting inquiries be directed elsewhere. Meanwhile, Williamson is focusing on his new Netflix series, The Waterfront, which features brief reunions with former Vampire Diaries actors Zach Roerig and Matthew Davis. Plec remains hopeful about continuing the TVD universe, but the network changes at The CW may affect where or if a spinoff could be produced. Overall, while the franchise’s future is uncertain, the creators diverge on timing and involvement, with Williamson prioritizing new ventures over revisiting the TVD universe at this time.
