Mother's Text Identifies Suspect in Triple Homicide

In July 2024, Arkia 'Kia' Berry, her 5-year-old son Landyn Brooks, and boyfriend Eric Ashley Jr. were found shot dead in a car in Birmingham, Alabama, in a triple homicide. Before dying, Berry texted 'Jaco,' the nickname of Jacorrian Deshawn McGregor, helping lead police to identify him as the suspect. Surveillance footage showed a green Kia Soul near the scene, which was found burned the next day and determined to be stolen. Phone records indicated McGregor's friends advised him to 'lay low' after the shooting. McGregor was arrested in February 2025 and charged with capital murder. He remains held without bond as police continue to investigate the motive and the connections between those involved.
