The New South Wales (NSW) government has initiated a crackdown on drivers involved in the illegal practice of exchanging demerit points for cash, with a task force targeting those with 20 or more points, including a French delivery rider who accumulated over 200 points. Multiple online platforms, notably Facebook Marketplace, facilitate these exchanges. The task force, composed of various agencies, aims to investigate and deter individuals exploiting the demerit system, with penalties reaching $11,000 for false nominations. NSW Roads Minister emphasized zero tolerance for such activities and highlighted the need for a review of penalties and suspensions given the ongoing abuse of the system.
