California Highway Patrol to Increase Presence in Vallejo

Residents of Vallejo, California, are calling on Governor Gavin Newsom to deploy California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers to address a significant increase in violent crime, including drug offenses, shootings, and car sideshows. Paula Conley, a local resident, initiated a petition on Change.org advocating for CHP's assistance, similar to their deployment in Oakland earlier in 2024. The community has expressed frustration over the local police staffing shortages and has observed a decline in crime rates in areas where additional law enforcement was provided. Newsom has acknowledged the need for local leadership to address these issues while offering state support. In response, the CHP has already been assisting Vallejo's police department, making numerous traffic stops and arrests.
