Threads Overtakes X in Monthly Mobile Users

Instagram's Threads app reached 115.1 million daily active mobile users in June 2025, growing 127.8% year-over-year and narrowing the gap with X, which declined to 132 million. Threads has now surpassed X in total monthly iOS and Android users, despite X retaining a strong lead in worldwide daily web visits at 145.8 million compared to Threads' 6.9 million. Bluesky, a decentralized platform, grew 372.5% year-over-year but remains much smaller with 4.1 million daily users and is now criticized for being a left-leaning echo chamber. The main competition for users is between Threads and X, with mobile engagement emerging as the central area of rivalry as Meta aims to monetize Threads through advertising. Bluesky's earlier growth was linked to discontent with Elon Musk's ownership of X, but its influence remains limited. Overall, the contest for social media dominance is intensifying, especially on mobile devices.
