US Treasury Sanctions 22 Entities in Iran Oil Shadow Banking Network
The U.S. Treasury Department has sanctioned 22 entities based in Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey for facilitating the sale of Iranian oil that supports the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force (IRGC-QF), a designated foreign terrorist organization. These entities operate within a sophisticated shadow banking network that uses front companies and offshore accounts to transfer hundreds of millions of dollars in profits from Iranian oil sales, circumventing international sanctions. The funds generated are used to finance Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs as well as terrorist activities across the Middle East. Key companies targeted include Turkey-based Pulcular Enerji and Golden Globe, as well as multiple Hong Kong-based firms involved in processing payments and moving oil revenues through sanctioned exchange houses. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized the ongoing commitment to dismantling this covert financial infrastructure that threatens U.S. interests and regional stability. These sanctions come as part of a broader maximum pressure campaign initiated by the President to counter Iran's destabilizing activities.
