In a pioneering move, Petaluma, California, has introduced the nation's first citywide reusable cup program, involving over 30 restaurants and coffee shops that accept deposits for multi-use beverage cups to minimize landfill waste. This program, supported by Closed Loop Partners, aims to gather data on the effectiveness of the initiative and enhance returnable packaging systems. Additionally, Starbucks is partnering with Huhtamaki to pilot new fiber-based, compostable cups and lids for cold beverages in select locations, starting in California and Minnesota.
