A judge has ruled that confessions made by Richard Allen, the suspect in the 2017 murders of Liberty German and Abigail Williams in Delphi, Indiana, can be used as evidence in his upcoming trial. Special Judge Fran Gull determined that statements made by Allen to psychologists, guards, and family members while incarcerated are admissible, despite his defense team's claims of coercion due to mental health issues. Allen allegedly confessed over 60 times during his pretrial detention, providing details about the murders that only the perpetrator would know. The judge found that Allen's statements were voluntary and not a result of coercive interrogation. His trial is scheduled to begin on October 14, 2024, with jury selection taking place in Fort Wayne. Allen has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
