Boeing Names Steve Parker Permanent Defense, Space CEO
Boeing has officially appointed Stephen Parker as the permanent CEO of its Defense, Space & Security (BDS) unit, following his interim leadership since September 2024 after the departure of former CEO Ted Colbert. Parker, a Boeing veteran since 1988 and former COO of BDS, has been credited with stabilizing operations, improving program execution, and strengthening customer relationships amid challenges like costly fixed-price government contracts and production issues. Under his leadership, Boeing's defense division has posted a turnaround with a recent operating profit after significant prior losses. Parker’s experience includes overseeing major defense sectors such as bombers, fighters, vertical lift, and managing Boeing Defence Australia, the company's largest international subsidiary. His elevation coincides with Boeing's efforts to navigate growing global demand for military and space systems, alongside other corporate changes including the appointment of Jay Malave, former Lockheed Martin CFO, as Boeing's CFO. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg praised Parker for his manufacturing and program management expertise and focus on culture development, highlighting his role in positioning Boeing’s defense business for future success.
