The Newman City Council has authorized a $32,275 agreement with Hansford Economic Consulting to conduct a comprehensive wastewater rate study to ensure the sustainability of its wastewater system. This study, expected to conclude by September 2025, will assess operational costs, capital improvement needs, and projected growth, aligning rates with Proposition 218's regulatory requirements. City officials emphasized the importance of the study in maintaining reliable service for residents and ensuring the infrastructure is financially sound. The study aims to support an upcoming major wastewater improvement project while avoiding undue financial burdens on residents. HEC, previously contracted by Newman, is recognized for its expertise in water and wastewater studies.
