George Russell retains P2 after DRS breach ruling
George Russell maintained his second-place finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix despite a post-race investigation into his use of the drag reduction system (DRS). His car experienced several electronic issues, including a brake-by-wire problem and a loss of connection with the DRS activation system. After being instructed to manually activate DRS, Russell accidentally engaged it while attempting to communicate with his team, leading to a brief, unintended activation. The stewards determined that although a breach occurred, Russell gained no significant advantage, as he compensated by losing time at the next corner. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff supported Russell, citing the technical failures as a mitigating factor. Ultimately, the stewards decided against imposing a penalty, allowing Russell to keep his position ahead of Lando Norris.
