Neuralink Begins UK Brain Implant Trials

Neuralink, Elon Musk’s brain implant company, has launched its first European clinical trial in the UK, collaborating with University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals. The trial will implant the N1 chip in up to seven patients suffering from severe paralysis caused by spinal injuries or conditions such as ALS, enabling them to control digital devices by thought. Neuralink’s R1 surgical robot will be used for these procedures. This trial follows successful human studies in the US, where participants like Audrey Crews regained digital autonomy through similar implants. The UK regulatory authorities have approved the trial, marking a significant step in Neuralink’s global expansion. The initiative aims to improve the quality of life for people with severe neurological disorders.
