Dozens of double-crested cormorant eggs, chicks rescued in California

A coordinated rescue operation in Marina del Rey successfully saved over 60 double-crested cormorant eggs and chicks from a wind-damaged eucalyptus tree in Burton Chace Park. The tree, which became unstable after strong winds caused a trunk to collapse, was home to 20 nests that needed to be removed for safety. The International Bird Rescue's Los Angeles Wildlife Center is now providing around-the-clock care for the rescued chicks and eggs, which require delicate feeding and nurturing. Staff are using puppets to avoid the chicks forming attachments to humans, ensuring they can be reintroduced to the wild. The rescued birds are expected to remain in care for about three months before their release. This rescue highlights the collaborative efforts of local wildlife agencies to protect both public safety and wildlife.
