Midweek Cold Front Brings Heavy Rain, Flood Risk
A slow-moving cold front and associated low-pressure systems will bring multiple rounds of rain across much of the U.S. midweek, with Thursday broadly the wettest day for many areas before drier air returns for the weekend. Parts of the Central Plains and Kansas have already seen heavy downpours of 1–6 inches with flood watches and warnings in effect, and additional rounds of showers and storms will continue eastward midweek. Southern New England and New Hampshire can expect beneficial rainfall of around 1–2 inches, while the Mid‑Atlantic (including Baltimore) will receive more late-week rain that helps totals but remains below normal overall. West Alabama will see showers and thunderstorms late Wednesday into Thursday; a few cells could be strong to possibly severe, with the primary threat being damaging wind gusts up to about 60 mph and localized heavy rainfall of roughly 1–1.5 inches. Most regions should see rain taper by Friday with sunshine and warmer, more pleasant conditions returning for the weekend, though localized heavy totals and isolated thunderstorms remain possible and a drier pattern may develop into early October unless tropical remnants intervene.
