Quad Bike Accident Claims Life of Boy

A 10-year-old boy, Thomas Bull, was tragically crushed to death by a quad bike on his family's farm in Paythorne, Lancashire, after taking the vehicle without his parents' permission. The incident occurred on June 7, when Thomas, despite knowing he shouldn't ride the bike alone, took it out after returning from school. His parents became concerned when he failed to return, and upon searching, they found him trapped under the overturned quad bike. Although he was initially conscious and responsive, Thomas's condition deteriorated after being transported to Leeds General Infirmary, leading to his death on June 10 from severe crush injuries and multiple-organ failure. An inquest concluded that the boy's age and weight increased the risk of the quad bike overturning, and he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, although no head injuries were recorded. The Health and Safety Executive determined no further investigation was warranted, recording the death as accidental.
