Former Royal Aide to King Charles, Princess Diana Dies Aged 91

Major General Sir Christopher Airy, former private secretary to King Charles and Princess Diana, has died at age 91. Airy, a distinguished former Grenadier Guards officer who commanded the Army's Household Division and had close ties to Queen Elizabeth II, took on the role of private secretary to the royal couple in 1990 but resigned after less than a year due to the growing tensions and divisions within Charles and Diana's household amid their troubled marriage. Known as a 'very bad fit' for the role, Airy's tenure was marked by frustration over the complexities of navigating the couple's strained relationship and their respective staffs. He had a long military career, including key leadership roles and honors such as CBE and Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order. Airy's departure came before Charles and Diana announced their separation in 1992, with their divorce following in 1996 and Diana's tragic death in 1997. His death follows that of his wife by just three months, leaving behind three children.
