Crane Strike Shuts Talmadge Bridge in Savannah
The Talmadge Memorial Bridge in Savannah, Georgia, was closed after a crane, being towed by a tugboat, struck the underside of the bridge and fell into the Savannah River on Friday afternoon. No injuries or casualties have been reported, according to the Savannah Fire Department. All traffic is being rerouted, causing major backups on alternate routes between Jasper County, South Carolina, and the Savannah area. The Georgia Department of Transportation has stated the bridge will remain closed for an indeterminate period while structural inspections are underway. Emergency services remain on site and have advised travelers to seek alternative routes. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
