Arizona Joins Multi-State Program to Cut Prescription Drug Costs
Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs signed an executive order to join the nonprofit ArrayRx discount card program, which will offer residents significant savings on prescription drugs starting in early 2026. The program, already adopted by Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Ohio, and Connecticut, provides up to 80% discounts on generic medications and 18% on brand-name drugs, with no cost to users. Hobbs emphasized the program's focus on lowering drug costs without profit motives, contrasting it with private companies offering similar cards but for profit. The card will be valid at most pharmacies nationwide and also covers some over-the-counter items like diabetes testing supplies. This initiative follows Hobbs' unsuccessful 2024 effort to cap drug prices through legislation, marking a strategic pivot to a more immediate, collaborative approach to combat high drug costs. Advocates highlight the program's commitment to protecting users' privacy by not selling personal information, distinguishing it from private discount programs.
