Antioch Man Charged With Boat Theft

Barry J. Hackleman, a 54-year-old man from unincorporated Antioch, has been arrested and charged with two counts of felony theft after he allegedly stole a 1995 Regal Valanti boat from a business and attempted to sell its parts. The theft was reported on October 3, and the following day, Hackleman was identified through surveillance footage while trying to sell an outboard motor at a local marina for a suspiciously low price. Lake County Sheriff's deputies later found the engine in the bed of Hackleman's pickup truck during a traffic stop, but he refused to disclose the location of the stolen boat, which has yet to be recovered. Hackleman, who is on pre-trial release for a separate battery charge, is due back in court following the charges. The Lake County State’s Attorney's Office is pursuing a petition to revoke his release due to these new charges.
