Egypt's Al-Ahly Appoints Danish Coach Jess Thorup
Egyptian football giants Al Ahly have appointed Danish coach Jess Thorup as their new head coach on a two-and-a-half-year contract, succeeding Spanish coach Jose Riveiro after a disappointing start to the season. Thorup, who previously managed FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga and has experience with FC Copenhagen, Genk, Gent, and Denmark's Under-21 team, expressed pride and determination to uphold the club's winning mentality and build on its rich history. The Danish coach is supported by a technical team of five assistants and is focused on winning titles and improving player performance, having already analyzed recent matches including those at the Club World Cup. The deal is reportedly one of the most lucrative in African football, estimated at around $8.5 million net, reflecting Al Ahly's commitment to maintaining dominance in African and international competitions. Thorup's arrival follows a period of instability at the club, which had seen a string of poor results under Riveiro but recently improved under interim coach Emad El-Nahhas. With ambitions high, Thorup is ready to meet the team and lead Al Ahly forward, emphasizing a shared mindset of victory with the club's leadership and fans.
