Blackstone Senior Executive Killed in Manhattan Office Shooting
A gunman identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura opened fire in the lobby of 345 Park Avenue, a skyscraper in midtown Manhattan housing Blackstone Inc and other tenants, killing six people including a senior Blackstone executive, Wesley LePatner, NYPD officer Didarul Islam, a security guard, and two others before taking his own life. LePatner was the Global Head of Core+ Real Estate and CEO of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust, and his death has deeply impacted the firm. The shooter reportedly had a documented mental health history, but his motive remains unknown. The rampage continued on the 33rd floor, where the gunman fatally shot another individual inside the offices of Rudin Management, the building's owner. Blackstone employees were urged to shelter in place during the incident, and some barricaded themselves in offices and bathrooms; several Blackstone employees and an NFL employee were injured and hospitalized. New York Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch condemned the senseless act of gun violence, emphasizing the tragedy's toll on the community.
